From our Club President

At this time of year, we naturally reflect on the many things for which we are grateful. One of mine is being part of the Prescott Frontier Rotary Club. This remarkable group of individuals offers friendship, support, fresh ideas, a true sense of belonging, and a shared commitment to doing good in our community. Through our Charitable Fund, we provide vital support to many local agencies and organizations. And through Rotary International's broader reach, we help communities around the world.

This season, our club is contributing to the school district’s Winter Wellness Program, which provides Christmas gifts to homeless and very low-income students. We are “adopting” a senior at Mountain View Manor to fulfill their holiday wish list. We are placing wreaths on the graves of the men and women who have served our country. And we are partnering with the Prescott Community Cupboard to help sort food donations for families in need.

“Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” This is Rotary’s Vision, and it inspires us to give and to serve.
Get involved where you can and do what you can with what you have. You will be blessed. It’s going to be a wonderful holiday season!

Congratulations!

District Member of the Month

Wendi Lancy, service project coordinator of Prescott Frontier Rotary, was named District 5495 Rotarian of the Month for October. Wendi truly goes above and beyond in everything she does. With our club tackling two service projects each month, she handles every detail with incredible grace and efficiency. Club President Linda Sweeney describes Wendi as "honest, gracious, thoughtful, and an inspiration to us all." In addition to her leadership on service projects, Wendi also chairs our annual signature fundraiser, Grapes 4 Good. She often opens her home to host social events - always making everyone feel welcome. Please join us in celebrating Wendi's well-deserved recognition.

Emmy Award Winner

One of our own, Shari LeGate, recently received an Emmy® for her role as color commentator for shooting sports at the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris on NBC/Peacock. The 46th Sports Emmy Awards, presented by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, recognize the best in American sports television coverage. The NBC network was honored for its 2024-2025 Outstanding Live Special - Championship Event coverage of the Olympic Games.

A seasoned broadcaster, LeGate has served as the shooting sports color commentator for the Olympic Games on NBC for the past 20 years and was herself a member of the USA Shooting team, scoring medals worldwide for 12 years. Her coverage of the Paris 2024 Olympics included 17 athletes and 15 shooting events across pistol, rifle, and shotgun disciplines, featuring both male and female individual and mixed team competitions.

"It was truly an honor to be nominated and to win the Emmy, but it couldn't have happened without the support and teamwork of the entire broadcast team," said LeGate. "This recognition is a testament to the incredible collaboration, creativity, and passion of everyone involved, from concept to final frame," she continued. "Storytelling at this level is never a solo act, and I'm grateful to have worked alongside talented professionals who brought their best every day."

Before her success on the field, LeGate studied marketing and broadcast journalism at Arizona  State University and is currently a freelance digital marketing specialist. Her distinguished career has included serving as Executive Director.

SERVICE PROJECT RECAP

Grapes 4 Good Results

Frontier Rotary's signature special event netted nearly $50,000, thanks to the generosity of our corporate sponsors, donors, and guests. Proceeds will benefit many charitable programs and service projects that help people from Prescott, surrounding communities, and around the world. Stay tuned for details on the 20th annual Grapes 4 Good event in 2026!

Polio Plus Campaign

In honor of World Polio Day on October 24, Frontier Rotary donated $10,245 to the Polio Plus Campaign, thanks to a two-to-one match from the Gates Foundation. Rotary members come together each World Polio Day to raise awareness and resources for the final push to eradicate polio - once and for all.

In addition, The Rotary Foundation recently received a four-star rating — the highest level possible — for the 17th consecutive year from Charity Navigator, an independent charity evaluator in the United States.

Our fundraising success is due to the unwavering support and dedication of our local club and all community members who support our local club service projects. Thank you for being a crucial part of what makes our Foundation a powerful force for meaningful change and lasting impact through service.

Charity Navigator determines its ratings by examining how nonprofits use their funds, how sustainable their programs are, and how well they adhere to industry standards of transparency and accountability. You can learn more about how Rotary does that in our most recent annual report.

Support of The Rotary Foundation inspires others and directly makes a difference through initiatives around the world and projects in our local community.

We’re deeply grateful for our donors who are dedicated to Doing Good in the World.

On behalf of the club, Frontier Rotarian Diane Meek placed American flags at the graves of veterans at the Rolling Hills Cemetery in Prescott, in honor of Veterans Day on November 11. Thank you, Diane!

Santas of Service

'Tis the season, and in keeping with Rotary International's core philosophy of serving others, Prescott Frontier Rotarians recently collected nearly 100 new blankets and backpacks for the Salvation Army's Winter Warm Up, an overnight shelter for men during the winter months, located at 231 S. Montezuma St. in Prescott. A special thanks to Kathy Miller for leading this fantastic effort!
Pictured with some of the donated items are, from left, Linda Sweeney, president, Frontier Rotary; Wendi Lancy, service projects, Frontier Rotary; Lieutenant Emily Reed and Edlina Jolly, The Salvation Army USA Western Territory; and Kathy Miller, the Frontier Rotarian who coordinated the successful collection drive.
